Robert John "Bob" Mayo, formerly of West Harrison, NY, died suddenly of a heart attack on February 23, 2004, in Basel, Switzerland while on a European performance tour.
Bob was born August 25, 1951 in New York City. He and his sister, Mary Jo, were raised in Westchester County, New York, the children of Nicholas and Felicia Mayo.
Bob was a musical prodigy, who moved seamlessly from his educational career at Iona Prep and Iona College to a musical career of international renown.
His virtuosity on keyboards and guitar coupled with his precision, imagination and style as a vocalist, producer and songwriter lead to many award-winning collaborations over a diverse and dynamic professional history.
In 1974, Bob joined forces with Peter Frampton. The band toured and recorded live for 11 months throughout the US and Canada. The fruits of this labor generated the groundbreaking, multi-platinum, live album, "Frampton Comes Alive." It was one of the top selling albums of the 1970's with sales of over 15 million copies worldwide.
Bob reunited with Peter in 1992 and had been touring and recording right up to his death.
Bob's most recent original material is featured on four CDs by the Westchester based Renovators.
Bob is survived by his sons: Christopher Robert Mayo and Gregory Nicholas Mayo, their mother, Carolyn Capasella Mayo, his sister, Mary Jo Mayo, his fiancee, Laurie Pellillo and her daughter, Catherine Jacoby.
